Earthship Puerto Rico – June 2018 Update

by Nicole Wines

Phase 2 of the first ever Earthship being built in Puerto Rico wrapped up this weekend, after 10 days over over 60 volunteers from across the island and around the world worked in the sun, rain, heat and humidity of the summer tropics at Tainasoy Apiario in Aguada, Puerto Rico.  When this project is complete, there will be 5 Earthship dome huts built around a central courtyard that will be used as a community and eco-educational center. This project highlights the need for recycling and for natural, sustainable and resilient building techniques that are also hurricane resistant.

Check out some news and update videos from Phase 2 of the build, which took place June 20-30, 2018. Want to get involved for Phase 3 of the build, which will happen in January? Like Tainasoy Apiario, Colectivo Verdolaga, and Earthship Biotecture‘s Facebook pages to keep up to date news, updates, programs, and build announcements.

Raíces EcoCulture was on site for a few days of the build and were able to see these incredible volunteers in action. Although we were volunteering on the farm itself and not on the build project, it did inspire us to research and advocate for more sustainable building projects on the island and around the world and hopefully implement some sustainable building projects of our own in the near future! We will be starting a weekly feature post here on to feature some of these projects and building styles so subscribe to this blog for instant email updates and keep your eyes open for more posts, articles and resources on natural and sustainable building techniques and projects.

Wow, thank you for this generous information. You have been truly amazing in support of our endeavors and initiatives in Puerto Rico, sending seeds to us to bring for distribution, donating funds to Ory’s butterfly house and goat cage projects. Thank you so much Allen! Look forward to meeting you in person one day.
